The Giggle: Part Two
After Keely walked out of the video lab, Phil quickly picked up the Giggle and put it on. “Giggle on. Search Keely Teslow year 2030.” He fast forwarded until he saw a tall buff man who he didn’t recognize. Then he heard the name, a name that he dreaded from that moment on; Owen. How in the world, thought Phil. “The only way Keels would even consider Owen would be if I went back to the future.” Then it hit him like a foul ball thrown into the audience: the Diffys were gonna go back to 2121. Deep down inside, Phil wanted to return to the future, but the only thing on his mind was Keely. Phil was determined to change the future again. Lloyd and Barb had given him plenty of warning when using the Giggle. They always told him not to believe what he sees because the future can change in a split second, but Phil wasn’t gonna let it change on its own.
Phil popped out of bed the next morning like a fresh bag of popcorn. He ran around buying candies and flowers. Keely approached her locker as she usually did first thing in the morning. Phil poked his head around the corner and let out a “Surprise!!!” “Oh, you scared me Phil. Who’s the lucky girl?” “You, Miss Teslow.” “Thanks Philly Willy, but why all this stuff?” “I just wanted you to know how much I care about you and how much I will always care about you forever and ever!” “Okay, what are you trying to pull here?” “Nothing, a friend just can’t give lots of gifts to another friend?” “Well I guess they can.”“ By the way, wanna come over after school to like hangout and do stuff?” “Sure. I’ll be there.” Phil was smiling really big inside. His plan was working. Now, he thought, I’ll just do this everyday until I go back tom the future. He paused. The problem wasn’t winning Keely over, it was going back to the future. Phil knew what he had to do.
For the next four weeks, Phil tried to stop his dad from making any progress on the time machine. Lloyd was so oblivious that he failed to notice. Phil did all he could but Lloyd kept inching closer to that day when the Diffys would return to the future. He dreaded the day he would once again become Phil of the future. Phil barely slept every night because he was concentrating on ways to slow their return. One night he decided that he would lose no more sleep over the matter. It was an early Friday morning but schools were closed for teacher planning. Lloyd had already gone to work and Barb and Pim had gone to do some early morning shopping. Phil was all alone except for Curtis who was probably asleep. Phil took out a gasoline can, drenched it with gasoline, dropped a lit match and ran. KABOOM!!! When I said it, I meant the time machine. Now it was no more. The Diffys had no chance of returning to the future. Keely was all his. No way would she marry Owen now. A neighbor had heard the noise and called Lloyd when they saw fire. He jumped in his truck and hurried home. Keely was on her way to Phil’s house when she smelt smoke. She ran down the sidewalk and realized that the smoke was coming from Phil’s house across the street. She began running across. Lloyd was almost there. He didn’t know what or who started the fire. He was speeding now and he slammed on the breaks. Boom. Phil heard the dreaded noise and ran from the backyard to the street. There lay Keely Teslow flung off the street onto the sidewalk. Phil sped towards her, tears rushing from his eyes. He picked her up and rocked her back and forth in his arms. “I love you,” he said, “I love you Keely Teslow. I’ve been too afraid to tell you but I love you!” With all the strength in her body, Keely lifted up her head and said, “I love you too Phil Diffy!” And those were the final words of Keely Teslow. She died that day in Phil Diffy’s arms, in front of his house because he was so selfish that he had to destroy others futures to perfect his own. Now his future is destroyed along with all the others. Now he is Phil of no future.
