I just heard that the way movies are rated may be changed to included making movies with smoking scenes have an automatic "R" rating. They believe that this in some way will help curb children smoking in the future. It's not that I want children, or anyone in fact to smoke, but keeping a youngster from viewing a smoking scene will do... well nothing. While standing in line to get tickets they will likely see someone smoking. It may even be their parent. I really do feel that we have become too overprotective if we believe that this will have any effect. Corresponding article

Well, that's just stupid... Know what else is stupid? Some people in the gay community are hosting and going to parties with only one purpose.... to get HIV.F*cked up? Yeah.

That isn't going to accomplish anything. Although, I am glad for Washington's "Clean Air Act"...no smoking in public places! Brilliant!
As for the whole getting HIV on purpose crap...what is wrong with these people?! Oh well, whatever floats their boats, I guess.

there's so much crap going on in this world now it's scary kids mostly pick up smoking from their parents though i don't think changing ratings is gonna help and the hiv thing is just stupid that's really not cool cause there are people out there dying from it who don't want it and you're gonna go and get it on purpose i think it's selfish

*announcer voice* And now...our feature presentation... This movie is rated "R". It may contain coarse language, adult situations, extreme violence and...smoking scenes. Yeah, I really don't see that taking off. Smoking is disgusting anyway, I really don't understand why anyone would bother with it. There are so many deadly consequences to consider, and even besides that it makes you smell, turns your teeth the color of an over ripe banana, gives you wrinkles, it makes me feel ill to even think of putting that filth into my body. I just don't get it. And that HIV thing is just idiotic, to actually go out and look to get it, I can't even imagine anything more stupid than that. It makes me very angry and sad to think that there are people out there with that level of ignorance and stupidity.

I asked one of my friends why he started smoking and he said in a mocking-voice "cuz it's cool". And when I asked him why he still smokes, he said "Cuz there's nothing else to do" I guess it keeps him occupied? I think it's stupid. I'm gonna send him a quit-smoking book in the mail later.

...kids mostly pick up smoking from their parents... Seriously. Kids are bound to see people smoking in public every day. I can't imagine anyone thinking it's rational to give a movie an "R" rating for something that can legally be done in public. Bender: You can't censor me just 'cause I'm an obscenely bad role model. Leela: As unclean as it makes me feel, I agree with Bender. Kids don't turn rotten just from watching TV. Fry: Yeah. Give a little credit to our public schools. ( purposely leaves out the part where Dwight, Cubert, and Tinny Tim commit a burglary to be cool like Bender) I think the real issue at hand is: What ever happened to parental responsibility?Bender: Do smoking and drinking on TV really make me cool? Of course they do. How 'bout committing crimes and violence? Again, the answer is "yes". But do we really want our kids exposed to that kind of trash on TV? I say absolutely not! Uh, on the other hand, most, perhaps all the blame, rests with the parents. That's right, you! And so I ask you this one question: Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them? Sorry, I can't even converse like a normal human. I use Futurama quotes to further an argument.

Normal conversation is highly overated. The argument was furthered nonetheless. Hey...did everything just taste purple for a second?
