Okay, so looking back at some of these shows, I don't even know why I watched them. Also, I'm not sure how familiar you will be with them, it really depends on your age and where you live.
By the way, I know fifteen sounds like a lot, but believe me, it took a LOT of eliminating to get it down to that number.
Buckle up, kiddos. We're about to take a cruise down memory lane.
15. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
This show was fun AND educational! Does anybody else remember the theme music and how cool it was? I always found it weird though, that Carmen would leave the kids clues as to where they could catch her, or where her next robbery would take place..I mean why would she risk getting caught, That FOOL! BUT, I let that go because I realize they were trying to teach us some geo-graphy and history.
14. Inspector Gadget
Inspector Gadget was awesome! Sure he was clumsy, absent-minded and kind of stupid, but he was still great. He also had every gadget IMAGINABLE built into him. The Gadget Copter was a helicopter that came out of his hat giving him the power to fly, The Gadget Coat, which inflated when he pushed one of his jacket buttons allowing him to float in water. Some of his other gadgets included the Gadget Brella, The Gadget Phone and the Gadget Respirator (No, I didn't make that up). With the help of his niece Penny, and her sort-of-talking dog Brain, Gadget did battle with the evil Dr. Claw and his goons. We never really got to see his face (which ticked ME OFF). All we saw was his claw-like hand stroking his cat. So in conclusion: Go Gadget, Go!
13. The Secret World of Alex Mack
This show was about a girl, Alex Mack, who got hit by a chemical plant truck or something I think and got contaminated with some weird chemical giving her special abilities. Among these were the ability to zap things (which really isn't all that cool), the ability to move objects with her mind (but for some reason they moved at a really slow pace) and the ability to turn into Capri Sun and slither around as she pleases. Her face also turned really orange/red whenever she got embarrassed, so that kind of sucked too. The only people that knew her secret were her best friend Ray and her sister Annie, who thinks Alex is her science experiment (as Alex states in the show's opening). The evil people at the plant, Danielle and Vince, spend most of the series searching for the kid who was contaminated in order to run evil experiments and tests and all that good stuff. They don't find out it's Alex until the HEART-STOPPING, FAST-PACED TWO-PART SERIES FINALE. (Exaggeration Alert, Exaggeration Alert!). But no, it really was a good episode. Too bad I never got to see how it all went down in Part 2, because our power was out for a few days.
12. Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Looking back, this show seems really dorky. But, I remember loving it when I was a child and that's all that matters. This show was about 5 ethnically diverse children each given a ring with the power to control a specific element of nature. They had to fight the Eco-Villains who really liked to pollute. Those whores. Whenever things got too hairy, the 5 teens would raise their rings to the sky and call out their element name (Fire, Water, et. al.) and then Captain Planet would appear to save the day! ...That's pretty much it.
11. David the Gnome
The Gnomes were fantastic. Remember Swift the fox? Remember how funny it was that David was a doctor? Remember the dancing? Remember the EVIL TROLLS...with the evil long dirty nails..and the unwashed dirty hair? REMEMBER THEM? There's not much to say about this show other than the fact that it was about the goings on in a community of gnomes.. and that it was superb.
10. Mighty Max
This awesome show was about a boy, Max, who receives a red baseball cap that gives him the power to travel through space. With the help of Norman the Viking and Virgil, the talking chicken/owl creature, Max had to defend the Earth from the Skullmaster and his evil minions. They also fought a bunch of random supernatural monsters every now and then to spice things up. This show was sometimes a little TOO graphic, but that made it all the more better. It was kind of lame how they BARELY managed to escape death at the end of each episode, and started to get old after a while. Oh, and in the last episode they killed off Virgil! Those bastards.
9. Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
Ch-ch-ch-chip and dale. RESCUE RANGERS. Need help solving a mystery? These two chipmunks have got your back! Of course they're usually weird mysteries that they solve, like toys being stolen from cereal boxes, but still..they WILL help you and that's all that counts. Other members of their team included Monterey Jack, the large Australian mouse always craving the cheese and Gadget Hackwrench, who was the female mouse. Both Chip and Dale were attracted to her but she never seemed to notice.
8. The Adventures of Pete and Pete
I know everyone just loved this hilarious show. This series, about two brothers both named Pete living in the town of Wellsville was one of Nickelodeon's best shows ever made. Young Pete was my favorite, what with using words like 'blowhole' and 'dill weed'....Not to mention his Petunia tattoo. Oh, and their mother had a metal plate capable of picking up radio stations in her head, from an accident when she was younger. If you don't love this show I'll have Artie, the strongest man in the world kick your arse. Oh and PS: Does anybody remember the episode where the bus was stuck at that red light forever?
7. Rocko's Modern Life
The greatest Nicktoon ever made was about Rocko the wallaby trying to survive everyday modern life in the city of O-Town. His dog Spunky (who I had a fake tattoo of as a child. Jealous?) pretty much ate everything in sight. His best friend, Heffer was a not-too-bright cow ---I mean steer, sorry! One of his eyes was squiggly on the bottom and that really annoyed me ...but I'm okay now. His other friend, Filburt the turtle mainly just got indigestion a lot.. He also got married to Dr. Hutchinson sometime into the shows run. Hutchinson was a hoot as Heffer would say..She was a cat or something and had a hook for one of her hands. She always seemed to have a different job in each episode, depending on the kind of help Rocko needed (surgeon, dentist, vet)... much like the Chameleon brothers who would run a variety of different businesses throughout the shows run. Oh and then the Bigheads, Ed and Beverly, are Rocko's next door neighbors. Lets see..who else is there. I feel like I just won an award and am giving my acceptance speech but forgot to mention a bunch of people. Oh, and PS the award I won was for 'Person most in need of a life'. Oh yeah, there was also this large hippo lady that Rocko always seemed to be accidentally bumping into. She would always scream 'HOW DARE YOU' and hurl him across the room. If you've never seen this show, I feel sorry for you. But, lucky for you Nicktoons Network (last time I checked) still airs the reruns, so for the love of Melba Toast, please catch it.
6. Goosebumps
Before I begin, I just want it to be known that I liked the theme song more than the actual show. Beginning to end, it's beautiful..Especialy in the middle when the monk sounding people begin making the moaning sounds (Yes, I realize that sounds incredibly wrong). Also, I always wondered if that long black trench coat man with the briefcase of flaying papers was really RL Stine himself, but probably not. Anyway, Goosebumps was fantastic..Both the books and the series. Some of my favorites included the Be Careful What You Wish For, The Werewolf at Fever Swamp, and Cuckoo Clock of Doom. Oh, and while we're on the subject of the books, I HATED the Choose Your Own Scare series because I would always make the wrong decision and cheat back and pick differently. I recently saw one of the books sitting in an old box. It had some boy smacked in the middle of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I'm not really sure why that book was ever made. Now before you leave me to go read about the next show, I'd like to leave you with one final piece of advice: Viewer Beware, You're in for a Scare! (evil laugh)
5. Ghostwriter
Ghoostwritaah. WORD! This show was on PBS (which lessens it's coolness factor) but it deserved better. This series was about 5 kids who solved mysteries with the help of a ghost who communicated through writing. He would search paperwork, online databases, and so on and return with useful information to help in solving the mystery. The other thing that was cool about this show was that each mystery was 4-6 episodes long, always to be continued the next day. This of course raised the excitement level as I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next or how they'd get out of that certain jam. I'd also like to know if anybody else besides me wore a pen around their neck and wrote 'Find anything, Ghostwriter?' on random pieces of paper, hoping he'd respond. No? Okay, that's fine. Really. I don't feel stupid or anything for putting myself out there.
4. Are You Afraid of the Dark?
This show was very scary. Nightmares were had all thanks to this show. There were few times I was brave enough to attempt watching the show on my own actually in the dark. Whenever I did try and watch alone, I'd immediately shut it off after I saw the swing swinging in that vacant playground, and boat floating in that dead body of water. Still, even though this show scared the everything out of me, I couldn't stop watching because it was so insanely good. So without further ado....Submitted for the approval of the Midnight's Society, I present to you (throws dust into the fire) The Tale of Why 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' made my Top 5. Oh, I'm now realizing I have nothing else left to say. Well, how about this. I recently found some old recorded tapes of the show stashed away in some boxes, and I STILL think its cool, even though it's been years since I've last seen it.
3. Bobby's World
Oh Bobby Generic, your show was magnificent. I still remember you trucking down the hall on your two-wheeler with your big stuffed-animal spider. I still remember how whenever someone would pronounce your last name as 'Ganeric' you'd angrily correct them and shout 'IT'S GENNER-ICK'. I still remember wanting to beat your two older siblings to a bloody pulp for being so mean to you..But most of all I remember your forever pregnant mother saying 'Ooh Dontcha' Kno Bobby'. Oh, and Uncle Ted, we can't forget about him..he was one crazy cat! There's really not much I can complain about Bobby's World. Well..except for the fact that his feet were GINORMOUS. Oh, I also wasn't much of a fan of the scenes where Howie Mandel would pop in and talk to the audience. Two thumbs down, Howie! If I had a third, it would be three thumbs down. Oh, ONE MORE THING. I also hated the way his older sister talked.. 'OmmiGod Bobbbbbbay, This is like soo totalllllly embarrrasing'. It got on my nerves. Okay other than that this show was flawless and gets a 400 on a scale of 1-10.
2. Alvin and the Chipmunks
"Watch Out. Cause Here we come.. It's been a while BUT. We're back in style!" I can't describe to you in words just how excited I'd get when this show came on. I loved the voices, I loved hearing them sing cheesy 80's songs and I loved hearing Dave scream 'Aaaaaaaaaaaaalviiin!' at the top of his lungs. Anyway, the series was about 3 musical chipmunks (Alvin, Simon and Theodore) adopted by lonely (and possibly gay) bachelor Dave Seville. Alvin always seemed to be getting them into one scrape after another by scheming up crazy plans. Later in the series, the Chipettes were introduced (Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor) They were basically the female versions of the three chipmunks. Simon and Jeanette always seemed to get along, Theodore and Eleanor did too, by sharing an unhealthy obsession with food. Brittany and Alvin however, mostly just butted heads a lot. In conclusion, this show simply the best!...or would be if it wasn't for our next show.
1. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
"Aaaah, after 10,000 years I'm free. It's time to conquer EARTH" shouts an excited Rita Repulsa, fresh out of her dumpster. That beautiful scene began every episode at the very start of the theme song. This show was the best! I had all the toys, the tapes, the POGS, the video games, the books, the board game, and even this one machine that made putties out of clay (just like Rita's) Anyway, I never missed an episode of this show.. I'd make sure to be home every weekday afternoon at 4:30, and be up at 7:00 am on Saturday mornings. Oh, and this one Halloween my mother took me to go buy a costume (I had my heart set on the Black Ranger costume) but all they had left was Blue... I had to be Billy, that effing nerd! But whatever, I remembered thinking about how cool it would have been to BE a Power Ranger..being able to morph, and to turn into static of my color and teleport. I used to play with my then-friends and then make a 'beep, beep. be-beep, be-beep' sound pretending my communicator went off and then proceed to go behind a tree and say 'I read you Zordon'. (PS i was somewhat of a nerd). Oh, and I always made one of my friends be the monster, since I just HAD to be a good guy. I also have quite a few memories of accidentally hitting someone 'too hard' causing them to call a short time out to go cry in a corner. This is probably why they all hate me today by the way.
PS, I really thought I would end up marrying Kimberly, the Pink Ranger.
Still kind of sad that it didn't all work out like I'd planned.
I hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane, I sure know I did! I of course regret spending so much time on this darn message since I have tons of schoolwork to get done, but that's really okay.
It's such a nice list. I miss all these shows (vomits nostalgia)
So anyway. What are your thoughts? Remember any of these shows? Wondering why I left one of your favorites off?
One last thought from me: I pity today's kids. They missed out on some awesome blossom shows.
By the way, I know fifteen sounds like a lot, but believe me, it took a LOT of eliminating to get it down to that number.
Buckle up, kiddos. We're about to take a cruise down memory lane.
