can you screencap DVD's? if there is a way can you PLEASE tell me. Thanks.

Probably many ways, one of them would be to play the DVD in Windows Media Player, take screencaps from there by hitting the "print screen" key and pasting that into some sort of image editing program...
I'm sure there are other, easier ways, but I'm not very techno-savvy...

Oh, and it might not work at first... if that's the case, go to:
Tools >>> Options >>> Performance tab >>>
And from there, make sure the slider that says "Video Acceleration" is set in the middle of the bar. ("Some video acceleration".)
If it doesn't work after you do that... well, as the tree said to the lumberjack, "I'm stumped."

I'm guessing it just cut out a black square when you tried to select the image?
